After 12 weeks, things get even more complicated as a new pair of old flames return to the island to heat things up! They would usually explain a hobby that they enjoy and what they like and dislike in a person, often chiding that they would "next," a person if they had this attribute.

Next was a dating game show produced by Kallissa Productions which ran on MTV from 2005–2008.

In a preselected fashion, the five daters were put into an order to go on a date with the contestant. Tarek and Christina El Moussa announced in December that they had been separated for more than eight months, with Tarek filing for divorce in January. If this were the last dater in the order, the segment ends as all five daters have been "nexted'.

It was also the beginning of another experiment:

These programs have also been criticised for complicating courtship with needless public expectation. In fact the show is the closest thing to The Dating Game MTV has ever done, right down the the screen that divides the contestants.

Most awkward and embarrassing dating show moment EVER!

The admirer was a homosexual friend of a heterosexual man who was so outraged after the taping that he later murdered the admirer. The first gay version of these more realistic shows to receive mainstream attention was Boy Meets Boy , with a format similar to that of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Laguna Beach and The Hills quickly followed. Having perfected their formula by this point, the network launched Next.
